Scoliosis refers to the lateral (sideways) curvature of the spine. This condition affects an estimated 6-9 million individuals. In around 80% percent of cases, the cause for this condition is idiopathic meaning “without known cause.” Some common signs and symptoms to note are uneven shoulder or winging of the scapula, rip prominence with forward bending, and one hip being significantly higher than the other. Unfortunately, the treatments for scoliosis are limited but chiropractic care can help alleviate many symptoms associated with scoliosis. Chiropractic care can reduce pain and discomfort, decrease inflammation, restore proper range of motion, and help patients with scoliosis increase the activity.
