Myofascial Release (IASTM)

Restore Chiropractic implements myofascial release techniques as well as instrumented assisted soft tissue mobilization. Myofascial release is a hands-on technique in which a firm pressure is sustained into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions with the goal of restoring motion and eliminating pain. Similarly, IASTM is technique in which a metal tool is used to apply pressure as well as “scrape” the muscles and fascia of the affected area. This form of deep tissue massage is able to actually “remodel” soft tissue abnormalities at the cellular level through a process known as mechanotransduction.

Muscle therapies such as these are able to:

  • Decrease the length of treatment times
  • Speed the healing and rehabilitation of injuries
  • Reduce the use of NSAIDs and other pain medications
  • Reduce muscle adhesions/restrictions
  • Reduce chronic inflammation
  • Increase cellular activity locally (fibroblast/mast cells)

Conditions in which myofascial release/(IASTM) is used include:

  • Neck pain
  • Low back pain
  • Cervical sprain/strain
  • Lumbar sprain/strain
  • Plantar fasciitis (foot pain)
  • Tennis elbow
  • Carpal tunnel Syndrome
  • Cubital tunnel Syndrome
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Patellofemoral disorders (knee pain)
  • Achilles tendinitis (ankle pain)
  • Trigger finger (hand pain)
  • Shin splints
