Sometimes there is confusion with the general public on what it is that chiropractors do, how they can benefit from chiropractic care, and how long it takes to see those benefits manifest in themselves. In today’s blog post we are going to focus on “sports medicine” chiropractic care and why this evidence-based approach likely applies to you whether or not you consider yourself to be an athlete.
Chiropractors are often thought of as the back and neck pain doctors, and while this is true it’s far from all we have to offer for our patients. At Restore Chiropractic, we treat many athletes and weekend warriors for injuries such as, ankle sprains, knee pain, hip pain, shoulder impingements, tendonitis, hamstring strains, shin splints, tennis elbow, sciatica, patellofemoral syndrome, hip flexor issues, IT band syndrome, Achilles tendonitis, and much more. We believe that it is important to educate the patient on the benefits of non-evasive and preventative medicine and how it can prevent injury, speed recovery, and in many cases help people avoid unnecessary surgeries.
If you find yourself reading this and thinking “I’m not an athlete, so this doesn’t apply to my life right now,” we want you to reconsider that position. Our body is a machine and is designed to work in unison with itself. If your hips are misaligned, your low back, knees, and ankles are going to be negatively affected as well. This applies to any joint or muscle that is not moving properly. Nothing in your body works alone but as a unit. Whether you are an avid athlete, someone who runs or lifts weight in order just to stay in shape, or are someone who doesn’t work out at all, life requires movement. It is for this reason that we like to preach that everyone is an athlete, if you want to be able to thrive and live the life you invison your body is going to have to cooperate with the demands you place on it.
So then the question that arises is what can we do for your injury? The short answer is, it depends. Recovery depends on the manner in which the injury occured, age, any pre-existing conditions prior to injury, fitness level and more. Vairables aside, there is always something to be done to rehabilitate from injury and alleviate pain. At Restore Chiropractic, we offer so much more than just traditional chiropractic services; we will evaluate and address your issue so that we can do everything in our power to fix the problem and prevent reoccurrence. Some of the treatment we include is laser therapy, ultrasound, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), stretching, home exercise programs, percussion therapy, deep tissue therapies, instrument assisted adjustment, and of course chiropractic joint manipulation (adjustments).
When you come into Restore Chiropractic, we are going to tailor our care specifically to your needs. We aren’t going to sell you on long expensive treatment plans, and we are going to get you better. If your issue requires anything we don’t offer within our scope of practice, we will be sure to refer you out to the appropriate medical professional, whether that be for imaging (radiographs or MRI) or for an orthopedics consult. We want you to get better above all else, even if that means referring you out to another specialist or doctor. Our primary goal for every patient is quality, integrated patient care.
